Welcome to the "Case Study Blogpost."
This assignment is designed to assist you in becoming better observers of students and to assist you in the process of anecdotal documentation. It is through better understanding and assessment of our students that we become better educators.
1. Begin observing the students in your classroom and after a few visits select one student that intrigues you for whatever reason.
2. Using a pseudonym….write down your first impressions of the student on our Blogspot, Blog “Case Study”. Give a full description of the student (age, gender, and ethnicity)and why you chose that student for your case.
3.Observe this student over the next few weeks and record your daily observations on our Blogspot, Blog “Case Study.” Make a habit of documenting and dating each day’s information concerning the student. Good day…tell why. Bad Day…explain. (i.e. academic behavior, unusual behavior, unusual situations, discipline situations, patterns of behavior, study skills, etc). BE SPECIFIC.
4. When observing, pay especially close attention to the following:
a) Describe the way the student behaves on the playground, in hallways, in the lunchroom (or in an environment outside of the classroom).
b) Describe the way he/she acts in class:
c) Where does he/she sit?
d) What kind of student is the child?
e) How does the student interact with the teacher and other students?
f) How does the student interact with you?
5. Try to observe the student during class instruction and detail the event.
a) What was the lesson?
b) Was the student involved in the lesson? How was the student involved?
c) Did the student understand the material?
d) Did the student complete the work or assignment?
6. Ask the teacher about the student. Record this information on our blog.
7. Try to spend individual time with the student (i.e. tutoring, time at recess or at lunch). Record the conversations in your blogs.
It is very important to date each blog entry (i.e. Tuesday, October 4 at 10:15 a.m.) This will enable you to better identify patterns of behavior.
* Blogging can begin now and continue through Sunday,November 28, 2010.
A minimum of 10 Blog entries must document your case study’s day (you can certainly do more). 5 additional blog entries must be responses to others’ case studies. These responses can be comparisons to your own case study, suggestions for modifying or accommodating to assist the student, etc.
Your final report and 5 work samples will be due on Monday, November 29 at 3:30 p.m.

New technologies are being developed every day that allow for borderless communication and collaboration. One such technology is the Weblog, or “blog.”
For the first part of this assignment, you will explore a few educational blogging sites. You may even decide to join and participate in or begin a blog. Browse through the education blog sites below and to see if one interests you. You will need to copy the URL address and paste it into your address bar.
